KEITH L. BLACK, M.D., is department chair and professor of neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai. A world-renowned neurosurgeon and scientist who has led pioneering neuroscience research, he has authored more than 35 patents for novel scientific innovations and was featured on the cover of Time magazine in the Fall 1997 special edition of “Heroes in Medicine”. He received the Jacob Javits award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2000, served on the NIH’s Board of Scientific Counselors for Neurological Disorders and the Stroke and National Advisory Neurological Disorders and Stroke Council, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine’s Independent Citizens Oversight Committee, and California’s Task Force on Alzheimer’s Prevention and Preparedness. Dr. Black has published over 400 scientific articles and book chapters and has presented his findings at over 500 national and international meetings including invited talks at TEDMED and Google’s “Solve for X” lecture series.
